Best scores at the Honda Classic
The best-ever 72-hole score at the Honda Classic tournament was posted in 2003 by Justin Leonard who raced to 264 with rounds of 63-70-64-67. Over 36 holes, Dan Pohl has been the best to date – he posted 128 in 1989 (66-62). Over 18 holes, four players currently jointly hold the record for the lowest score, which his 62. These players are Dan Pohl (1989), Hale Irwin (1979), Tim Herron (1996) and Jerry Kelly (2003). Over nine holes, 29 stands as the best score, and this was achieved by Steve LaMontagne in 1994 as well as Dan Pohl in 1989.

The most consecutive birdies ever sunk are six, by Fred Couples in 1985. The widest victory margin ever achieved was five strokes, which was achieved by Jack Nicklaus in 1977 over Gary Player.
Jack Nicklaus has won the Honda Classic three times (1976, 1977, 1978), which makes him the most successful Honda Classic golfer to date. Payne Stewart has had the bittersweet accolade of finishing in second place a whopping five times – in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1997 and 1999.
The tournament is to be supported by the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation, a charity group chaired by Barbara Nicklaus who is the wife of Jack Nicklaus.
As of 2007, the Honda Classic golf tournament has the support of a new tournament organising committee, which is headed up by executive director Ken Kennerly.
